Welcome to Hickory Gifted and Talented Education (G.A.T.E.)
Students are identified for GATE based on student performance data such as pre-tests, previous MSA scores, OLSAT, MAP data, interviews, and performance based assessments.
During G.A.T.E. instruction, students will not only be learning the skills for their present grade level but in many cases they will be pushing forward to the next grade level’s skills. We will be moving at a quicker pace and covering more depth within the topics covered. G.A.T.E. instruction is composed of STEM-based projects, shared inquiry, and enrichment project-based instruction. Our instruction is aligned with the new Common Core objectives, with a large emphasis on real world problem solving and 21st century skills. Technology is integrated daily and provides the students with the skills they will need for jobs of the future.
As the G.A.T.E. teacher, I am also responsible for helping to identify students who would benefit from Magnet placement. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have regarding Magnet applications or process. Current first and fifth grade students may be invited to apply to the Magnet Program.
